Care for the Retired

It is not widely known that the state pension for Britons is among the worst in Europe. This staggering betrayal of our older citizens has been achieved by a raft of governments, regardless of the colour of the badge they happen to be pinned to. It is so bad that a pensioner, on a full state pension can expect to receive about half that which the Government feels is appropriate for a younger person working on the minimum wage. The economic deprivation this puts our older people through, in what should be their golden, twilight years is so shameful.

I say that this shocking neglectful betrayal of our older people has to end, and end now. I am calling for our state pension to be pegged to the minimum wage. Hardly a demand for riches and yet, that it has to be asked for illustrates how much our older people have been let down.

They pegged pensions to the rate of inflation which made the Government seem generous and caring. They would then give public demonstrations, in national, media, talking shops, to create the impression that maintaining the pension peg with inflation was a trying, testing commitment, implying its generosity. But it has all been a carefully crafted lie. The days when the world could rely on the integrity of a British government figure has long gone. The inflation rate is an example of this. The inflation rate is systematically massaged down, in this instance, cheating the trusting pensioners in the process.

Every vote cast in this General election, for a National Political Party, is a vote cast to continue the financial deprivation of our older people. A deprivation that bites hardest in the winter as they simply do not have the money to heat their homes and as a consequence, in the cold, they die. Please give me your support and together lets bring this horror to an end.
