The National Health Service

I am deeply concerned for the future of the NHS. Over the course of my lifetime the NHS has been turned from being a highly effective public service into a cash cow for the rich, who through the NHS are getting a lot richer. Labour’s program for Public Finance Initiatives have been a financial and public service disaster, as they were always going to be. They deliver chronically poor value for money and at the expense of frontline services. Payment for PFI was a whopping 16% of the total NHS budget. Clearly taking desperately needed funds from frontline services and our ill and vulnerable who need it.

I believe, driving commercial interests out of the NHS is essential for securing its long term future.
